Food chronicles from China

The one thing everybody warned me about was FOOD. And this post just about that!

Hmm....15 days of chinese food, day in and day out, at a new restaurant each day ....i guess it is enough experience to talk about it ...well I agree that the food made at homes must sure be different and more tasty :)

One thing that I read in all the websites about Beijing is the famous roast duck. And I followed instructions to the extent that my meals for the first 3 days consisted of the great Beijing duck. I had the best of them at this fancy restaurant called The Old Dadong, apparently the best Duckie place in Beijing :D I also saw some real weird stuff in the display...the yuck looking sea cucumber and some lobster stomach noodles stuck up wih the lobster head staring at you....Cheh! this kinda stuff is hard to handle!

Now coming to the normal food...I think the best food I had was at a very inexpensive place right infront of the office...the dishes are sumptuosly served, following the Chinese tradition of sharing the food. The portions of almost everything are basically for a grp of atleast 4 people. This is a big problem for a person travelling alone in China. Serving free Chinese tea is a common practice in most restaurants. Beware, they wont have normal water. Initially I didnt like the tea being forced upon me...but gradually i kinda liked it and one day i chose Tea against Water! I also got myself some tea leaf as well from the WangFujing market :)

A few other things that are really my favourites now are the Dimsum specialities (almost like Biryani) , Congee, Glass noodles, the beijing nut, Salted sunflower seeds, the spinach pancake, pumpkin cake and the Hot pot way of dining :)
